| Series notes | Baluji Shrivastav began playing classical Indian instruments at six years old. Blinded as a baby, his extraordinary talent enabled him to conduct an eighty-piece orchestra at just nine years old. Before Baluji was fifteen years old, he had obtained two BA degrees, in Music and in Vocal Studies As a young man, Baluji Shrivastav taught and performed all over India, then in France and arrived in England in 1982. His first position was as musical director of Pushpanjali, a piece commissioned by Tara Arts, which was the first non-Western musical performance supported by the Arts Council of England. Since arriving in England over twenty years ago, Baluji Shrivastav has performed and taught in North America, Europe and Africa and has been awarded the accolade of 'virtuoso multi-instrumentalist' by The Times newspaper. |
