As part of the 1982 seminar ‘The Place of Indian Dance in British Culture’, the Academy of Indian Dance presented two evening dance performances held at the Commonwealth Institute on 14 and 15 October 1982. The black and white programme features a paragraph biography on the various dance companies and artistes participating in the performances. Some of the featured dancers were Priya and Pratap Pawar, Chitra Sundaram, Shobana Jeyasingh, Tara Rajkumar, Nahid Siddiqui, Great Indian Bhangra Dancers, and performers from the United Artists Association.

Series notesAkademi: South Asian Dance was known as The Academy of Indian Dance for over 10 years since its establishment in 1979. This grouping, Beginnings, focuses on the first ten years of the organisation (1979-1989) and traces its pioneering work in increasing accessibility to Indian dance and creating a space for Indian dance in contemporary British culture.
