The final version of ‘Frontliners’ was published in the journal of Peterloo Poets – “Poetry Matters” in Winter 1988. Gunesekera’s poem was dedicated to his baby daughter and won the first prize in the 1988 Peterloo Poets open poetry competition.

Series notesRomesh Gunesekera began writing poetry while still at school in the Philippines. The American poets of the 1950s known as the 'Beat Generation' were his strongest influence until he came to London in 1971. Since 1991, Gunesekera has written and published poetry for children and adults, and has contributed to over fifteen poetry anthologies, magazines, and journals.

The Romesh Gunesekera Collection contains digital extracts of his short stories and novels, as well as several poems. The material also includes photographs, handwritten detailed research notes, and annotated manuscripts.
