Description

The department of English at the University of Durham published a poetry journal entitled Poetry Durham three times a year. A special issue of this journal was published in Winter 1985, which featured fifteen poems by Romesh Gunesekera and fourteen poems by Jamie McKendrick. The first six poems of Gunesekera’s collection in Poetry Durham have been digitised. They are Captain Nemo; Circled by Circe; Going Home (A Letter to Colombo); House Building, An Honourable Estate and Target Practice.

Series notesRomesh Gunesekera began writing poetry while still at school in the Philippines. The American poets of the 1950s known as the 'Beat Generation' were his strongest influence until he came to London in 1971. Since 1991, Gunesekera has written and published poetry for children and adults, and has contributed to over fifteen poetry anthologies, magazines, and journals.


Collection notesThe Romesh Gunesekera Collection contains digital extracts of his short stories and novels, as well as several poems. The material also includes photographs, handwritten detailed research notes, and annotated manuscripts.
