Series name | Ram Gopal: 1960 - 1969 |
Description | This monochrome photograph features Ram Gopal with Dame Alicia Markova (1910 – ), the world renowned English ballerina. The image was taken in March 1960 by the Press Association-Reuters. It depicts the dancers in a classical Indian posture during rehearsals at London’s Prince’s Theatre, for a duet choreographed by Ram Gopal, called ‘Radha-Krishna’.The image features the prominent use of a blue biro pen used by Ram Gopal himself, to define areas of his body. The process of re-touching by hand, was a common practice employed by the media and famous people in the 1950s and 1960s, similar to the use of software packages to re-touch images today. |
