Description | In 2002, Oxford University Press published Aamer Hussein’s third collection of short stories entitled ‘Cactus Town and Other Stories’. From this collection, the following five short stories have been digitised: ‘Your Children’, ‘Karima’, ‘Electric Shadows’, ‘The Sound of Absence’ and ‘The Girl from Seoul’. The collection includes an introduction by renowned Pakistani writer and editor, Muneeza Shamsie, niece of the prolific writer Attia Hosain. In addition, the book contains an autobiographical after word entitled ‘This Day’s Work: The Story of My Stories’, which provides an insight into Aamer Hussein’s fiction, and the strength of the links he makes with his own life experiences in his writing. |

Collection notes | Aamer Hussein was born and brought up in Karachi, Pakistan in 1955. His father, Ahmed Hussein settled in Karachi, his family home, after completing his studies at Oxford and Aligarh in the early 1940s. He married Sabiha Malik, Aamer Hussein’s mother, in 1948. |
