Description | This Other Salt’, Aamer Hussein’s second collection of short stories, was published in May 1999 by Saqi Books, London. The collection consists of ten thematically linked short stories in which Hussein portrays the themes of betrayal, bereavement, exile, belonging and the role of the writer. There is also an experimental sequence entitled ‘Skies’, which consist of four texts for an autobiography. We have digitised the short story, ‘Painting on Glass’ which looks at the work and personal experiences of a thirty-six year old Pakistani writer, struggling to make his life in London. |

Collection notes | Aamer Hussein was born and brought up in Karachi, Pakistan in 1955. His father, Ahmed Hussein settled in Karachi, his family home, after completing his studies at Oxford and Aligarh in the early 1940s. He married Sabiha Malik, Aamer Hussein’s mother, in 1948. |
