Series nameProject Development
Description

This red and black leaflet was produced for Mán Melá ‘s 2001 adaptation of Saadat Hasan Manto’s short story, ‘Toba Tek Singh – The Exchange of Lunatics’. Manto is considered to be one of the most controversial and widely read authors in Urdu. The production was a work in progress and was written by Punjab-born writer Amarjit Chandan. ‘The Exchange of Lunatics’ is an account of the bureaucratic plan to transfer Hindu and Sikh mentally disabled pole from Lahore Asylum shortly after Partition in 1947. The play was directed by Mán Melá ‘s artistic director Dominic Rai and was performed by professional actors and people who had never acted before, from the community. The leaflet includes a background to Manto’s original story and lists forthcoming Mán Melá productions.
