Description | This is an A4 poster for ‘Panjabi Mehfil’, presented by Mán Melá in 1994 and in 1996. A ‘mehfil’ is a traditional poetry and ‘ghazal’ gathering. The event took place London, Windsor and Luton and featured UK-based poets Amarjit Chandan, born in India and Mazhar Tirmazi, born in Pakistan. A number of local poets were also invited to share their work at these open sessions. Led by Mán Melá artistic director Dominic Rai, the Mehfil was in celebration of the shared Punjabi heritage of Indian and Pakistan, portrayed by actors and poets presenting in Punjabi, English and sign language. |
