This postcard-sized flyer is for ‘The Cornershop’. It was a triple-bill production specially commissioned by Mán Melá to highlight the work of three new British Asian writers. The show was directed by Dominic Rai and portrayed life behind the counter in a corner shop. The three writers brought their own stories to the production: Yasmin Khan’s ‘Reesham (Silk)’,Ravi Mangat’s ‘Wish’ and ‘Jeevan Sathi’ (Life’s Partner), by Ashok Patel. The production toured over twenty venues in April 2001 including Bristol, Birmingham, Canterbury, London and Tunbridge Wells.

Series notesThe Cornershop comprised three new plays written by Yasmin Khan, Ravi Mangat and Ashok Patel, exploring British Asian family life. The production was originally commissioned by The Hawth, Crawley, as part of a 3-year programme supported by the Arts Council of England, to encourage new British Asian theatre and to develop audiences for it. The Cornershop previewed in Spring 2000. This digital material in this file features a photograph from each writer’s production and a flyer.
