Series notes | The Untouchable Century was a major multi-media show produced by Mán Melá between 1998 and 2000. Directed by Dominic Rai, it portrayed the life and work of the ‘father of modern Indian literature in English’ - Dr Mulk Raj Anand, who currently resides in Mumbai. Anand lived in Britain during the wars and knew all the major literary figures of the day including T.S Eliot and Virginia Woolf. The Mán Melá production included extracts from Mulk Raj Anand’s 1935 novel, Untouchable, about twenty-four hours in the life of an Indian lavatory attendant, and Across the Black Waters depicting the tragic fate of the Indian soldiers in World War One. The digitised material in this file includes leaflets, flyers and programmes from the Untouchable Century tour, which also provide background information on the Mán Melá cast and crew as well as historical facts and biographical information on Mulk Raj Anand. |
Collection notes | The Mán Melá Theatre Company Collection consists of digitised material pertaining to Mán Melá’s productions and its audience and project development work since 1993. The items include production and workshop photographs, flyers and information-based programmes. |
