Series notes | In 1991, Tara Arts adapted Sophocles' Greek tragedy, Oedipus the King for an Asian cast. In this production Director, Jatinder Verma focuses on Oedipus' journey as an immigrant to Thebes and illustrates the difficulties facing an immigrant in a strange land as a way of commenting on the difficulties facing ethnic minorities in Britain. The cast include: Anthony Bunsee as Creon and Messenger, Vincent Ebrahim as Oedipus, Cuckoo Parameswaram as Tiresias and Shepherd, Janet Steel as Jocasta and Antigone, and Merlin Shepherd as the Musician. Anthony Bunsee, Cuckoo Parameswaram and Janet Steel all took part in the chorus. The production team include: Director, Jatinder Verma, Merlin Shepherd, Music and Designer, Magdelen Rubalcava. The play opened in London from 12-28 March at the Tara Arts Centre and toured nationally and internationally from April to June 1991. |
